Candidates & Lathrop Update: From the Oct 9 SLN Meeting

The meeting began with presentations by Cook County State’s Attorney candidates Anita Alvarez (D) and Lori Yokoyama (R) and Green Party 5th district congressional candidate Nancy Wade.

We heard from John McDermott, Housing and Land Use Director for the Logan Square Neighborhood Association about the history of Lathrop Homes.

McDermott also presented a community-based approach for redeveloping this historic site.  Kerry Dickson, senior VP with Related Midwest, a member of the Lathrop’s redevelopment consortium, scheduled to present the “official” scenarios, was unable to attend the meeting.

In a unanimous vote, South Lakeview Neighbors opposed the high-density, high-traffic, high-rise plans of the redevelopment consortium.  Andy Ambrosius, editor and reporter for the Lakeview Patch, posted an article that covers the presentation about the Julia Lathrop Homes project and SLN’s reaction.
