During his State of the Ward & State of the City presentation, Alderman Scott Waguespack mentioned that that there will be two speed camera locations in our neighborhood. The first will be at Barry & Ashland, by Burley School.

The other is in a less obvious location, at the corner of Fullerton and Ashland.  Why?  Nestled off the alley and behind the medical building on the corner, there’s a small park.  According to The Expired Meter, “The city’s Children’s Safety Zone Program allows for speed cameras to be installed within 1/8 of a mile of a school or park.”

What will a ticket cost?  “Drivers caught by the cameras going 6-10 mph over the limit will get a $35 violation notice in the mail, while those exceeding the speed limit by 11 or more will be fined $100. Enforcement hours around schools will be between 7 AM and 7 PM Monday through Friday, while parks will be enforced by the cameras from 6 AM to 11 PM seven days a week.”

The speed limit on Ashland Ave is 30 MPH.
