Our September meeting continues the tradition of starting our year with the Alderman. This year, we’re meeting virtually via Zoom.
- Get the zoom software, if you don’t ready have it, at https://zoom.us/ or via the app store for your tablet, phone, etc.
- The meeting will start at 7PM sharp. To avoid disruptive “zoom bombers”, everyone will have to be manually admitted to the meeting, so please connect about 10 to 15 minutes early.
- The link and password for the meeting will be posted in our Facebook group and sent via to our newsletter subscribers via email 24 hours before the start of the meeting.

I noticed leaves had starting falling and suddenly realized it was September. The summer of 2020 has been like no other. Hot weather, Covid 19, a struggling economy, racial tensions and a pending residential election. Wow!

UPDATE on 1340 W. Wolfram – Zoning upgrade, demolition and construction of new Single-
Family House – DENIED by the ALDERMAN
This property is currently zoned RS-3 for smaller single family or 2-unit buildings. The Developer and potential buyer were seeking a zoning upgrade to RT-3.5 to allow for a taller building with higher total livable square footage and a smaller back yard. The Developer informed the group that six of nine property lots on that side of the street of 1300 Wolfram were already zoned RT-4. But that zoning change occurred more than 20 years ago. The Developer had obtained signatures from nine neighbors in support of the Project stating that they welcomed replacing a dilapidated 2-unit building with a new single-family house. Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) coming to SLN neighborhood – 3113 N. Lincoln Ave. / 3116-18 N. Greenview
The revised TOD regulations in effect in Spring 2019 allows a TOD development to be built within 1⁄4 mile of eight high frequency CTA bus corridors. Ashland Ave. is one of those corridors. SLN has been notified of the following TOD within our boundaries.
3113 N. Lincoln Ave. is a one-story dumpy looking store front that connects on the back side to 3116-18 N. Greenview. There is a building permit in the window dated 2017, so it has been vacant for at least three years. Read more in the September Newsletter.
Ann Sychowski – SLN Treasurer is going to be 90 years old!
Ann is a forever Northside Chicagoan. She is a graduate of St. Josephat’s Grammar School on Southport and Waller High School (now Lincoln Park H.S.) on Armitage. Upon graduation, she worked at the Belmont National Bank at Belmont and Clark. She was married in 1950 at the tender age of 20 to her husband Len. Len and Ann moved into their fixer-upper house on the 1500 block of Oakdale 60 years ago and she still lives there. Ann and Len had two children, Carol and Ron and currently have three grandchildren. Ann believes she has been the SLN Treasurer for about 40 years. She came on board with then President Josephine Nikola, who owned the grocery store on the SW corner of Wolfram and Greenview. Ann said she stayed up until 2AM in the morning straightening out the SLN books when she took over. Ann and Len were a SLN super duo, with Len driving the car and Ann getting out to collect advertising contracts and payments, donations for the Christmas and Spring parties and any other items that SLN needed to run the monthly meetings held in the St. Alphonsus School basement. On top of her Treasurer duties, Ann was instrumental in getting overhead lights put in at the intersection of Ashland and Wellington after a tragic accident occurred at that intersection. She set up a table outside the Jewel to get signatures demanding the overhead lights be installed. Read more in the September Newsletter.
